The Battle Continues

Colton: My Allergy Child

Just to keep everyone updated on our sweet Colt; He’s not better, and still has food allergies.

Last month Colton had an appointment with the dermatologist. She is great, by the way! Basically the antihistamine he is on is working great, along with the steroid cream. On the bad side, we did give Colton some peanut butter, and he did have an allergic reaction. His nose started running, and his face started itching. His poor eyes got red, watery, and swollen. His dermatologist didn’t like how that sounded. She referred us to a pediatric allergist.

Yesterday, we went and saw the allergist, and we got some tests done. You know, the ones where they prick his back and if the spot swells up, then he’s obviously allergic. Yeah, that test! Colt did really well, until the spots started swelling and itching. He was miserable, poor guy. But, the tests showed a reaction to Peanuts (dang it), Eggs (darn it), and Dairy (well, crap!). Now these are just the main foods most people seem to be allergic to. This doesn’t mean these are the ONLY foods he’s allergic to. The Doctor gave us a prescription for Epinephrine, and told me what food to avoid (still nursing here!), and what foods he needs to avoid.

On a good note, the Doctor seemed very positive that this should end by the time he’s two…. at the LATEST, five. With that being said, I need prayers for our sweet boy. Prayers for healing and for minimal reactions to food, please. Also, if anyone has any good (I mean really good. Not bland and cardboard-tasting) recipes that are peanut, dairy, and egg free. That would be so helpful! Also, I was advised to speak to a dietitian about foods that can provide Colton with the correct nutrition, and for me, because I’m still nursing. So if anyone has any ideas or tips about proper food to keep up the nutrients in my milk, let me know!! Have a blessed day!
